Adulterated paneer, khoya confiscated

PUNE: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials confiscated adulterated paneer and khoya from Budhwar Peth on Wednesday. 

Almost a week back, on January 30, FDA officials had seized 1,410 kg of adulterated paneer. This time, the officials have seized 7,519 kg of adulterated paneer and 4,574 kg of adulterated khoya.

As per Joint Commissioner (Food) Suresh Deshmukh, the department received a tip-off regarding the adulterated paneer and khoya and decided to raid Budhwar Peth area on Wednesday.

“In all, paneer worth Rs 15,49,990 was confiscated and khoya worth Rs 9,14,800 was confiscated. The paneer was ordered from Karnataka by 31 vendors from the city, whereas six vendors ordered the khoya from different parts of the State,” said Deshmukh.

He added that the samples of each have been sent to Mumbai for further testing under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (FSSAI) and 2011.

Food safety officers from Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur and Kolhapur were present during the operation. 

The raid was conducted under the leadership of Balu Thakur, Sanjay Naragude, Assistant Commissioner Food and Suresh Deshmukh, Joint Commissioner (Food).
