Accident claim amount worth Rs 2.5 lakh settled in 4 months

Accident claim amount worth Rs 2.5 lakh settled in 4 months

PUNE:  In one of the fastest accident claim settlements, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance with support from Pune District Legal Aid Services Authority and Pune City Police, on Saturday, settled a third party claim in about four months from the date of the accident.

The claim amount of Rs 2.5 lakh was paid to the relatives of the victim who died in a road accident.

PR Ashturkar, member, Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT), Pune, said, “This initiative is an out of the box idea. The victims in accident cases and their relatives will not have to face double trauma in the collection of documents, persuasion of the claim and getting just compensation. The second victimisation of the claimants would be reduced by this initiative.”

Dr K Venkatesham, Commissioner of Police, said, “On an average, claim settlement time is 4-5 years and we are happy that in Pune we are able to reduce this time to months and showcase a model here for others to follow.”

Commenting on the occasion, Tapan Singhel, MD & CEO, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, said, “I’m sure that this collaboration will go a long way in expediting claim process and providing relief to customers.”

According to officials, under the initiative of police’s SEVA Kendra, once an accident case is registered with Pune police, the police will intimate the insurer about the same and also inform the victim’s family about the documents required to make the claim. The necessary documents provided by both the claimant and the police will then be verified by the insurance company on the spot. This will help the insurer propose appropriate compensation to the beneficiaries immediately. If they agree to the compensation amount, it will be provided by the insurer through the District Legal Aid Services Authority. If not, the procedure to approach MACT will be explained for claims.
