Academy for teachers to come up soon

PUNE: The State Department of Higher and Technical Education will soon set up the Maharashtra State Faculty Development Academy in the State. 

The department has issued a notification regarding the academy under Section 8 of Company Act 2013. The academy will function on autonomous status. The academy will conduct workshops to enhance the professional skills of the teaching faculty associated with universities and its affiliated colleges. 

Last month, State Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant had announced starting of an academy to provide rotational training to teachers. He said that there are around 50,000 teachers registered with the State government who will receive the training. The attempt will be to start the training from March 1. 

The structure for functioning of this academy as approved by the government is, State Department of Higher and Technical Education will provide 40 per cent support, while all non-agricultural universities will have 40 per cent of share, government institutions and self-funded institutes will have 10 per cent, and the rest five per cent funds will be through corporate social responsibility activities and Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education each. A total of 15 members will be on board the directorate committee.
