AAI Regional Director lauds facilities for fliers

Pune: Airports Authority of India (AAI) Western Region  Director G Chanderamouli applauded the Pune Airport Authority work on his one-day visit to the city on Saturday. He appreciated the facilities provided to passengers. 

Chanderamouli inspected the ongoing development work of the terminal building. He visited the construction site of the new terminal building. Pune Airport Director Ajay Kumar gave him details of the work.

The size of the existing terminal building is 22,300 sq metres. The new terminal building will be built on 40,000 sq metre area towards the eastern side of the existing building. After that total size of the airport will be 64,300 sq metres. The budget of the new terminal building is has a whopping Rs 400 crore. The work was expected to get over by 2021 and it will enable the airport to handle passenger traffic of 20 million per year. The AAI began construction of the new terminal building in mid-December last year. It will be integrated with the existing building.

“Terminal building inspection and Project Site visit was conducted along with consultants. We are committed to completing this project in the time,” Kumar told Sakal Times.

During his one-day visit he carried out plantation drive on the airport premises. Along with him, officials from Pune Airport including Kumar and other staffers also planted trees. “He also inaugurated separate dustbins for pet bottles inside the terminal building. We are committed to development and the environment,” said Kumar.

The new terminal building is managed by the AAI and after the construction is complete, it will compete with other airports. The building will have better space for fliers and better amenities. However, the Pune Airport Authority has been expecting that the land which was to be handed over by PMC will be given soon. Therefore, multi-level car parking will be constructed.
