“After this, I also met a child who was a cancer survivor. That was very shocking for me. I have a list of questions about cancer to my mother and how these patients lost their hair. It affected me deeply,” said Labha.

PUNE: After seeing her aunt bald, seven-year-old Labha Shah was very scared. She asked her mother what has happened to her aunt. Her aunt lost her hair during the treatment of cancer. Deeply moved by this, the young girl decided to donate 13 inches of her long and healthy hair to an organisation, which works for cancer survivors.

It is a known fact that many cancer patients while responding to cancer treatment lose their hair because of the side effects of chemotherapy. This not only causes them mental and emotional trauma but also affects their self-confidence.

“After this, I also met a child who was a cancer survivor. That was very shocking for me. I have a list of questions about cancer to my mother and how these patients lost their hair. It affected me deeply,” said Labha.

Her mother, Minal Shah, who is a homemaker, said that she responded to all the questions her daughter asked very patiently. The young girl had questions about how these survivors cope with hair loss if they feel embarrassed as they go bald.“I told Labha to think about how these patients can be helped. While surfing on the Internet, we both found this website, which talked about donating hair to cancer survivors. Labha quickly asked if she can donate too,” said Minal.

“On the website, Labha saw that many people had donated hair right from the roots. And then she decided to donate 13 inches, but at that time her hair was just nine inches in length,” said Minal.  After this, the mother-daughter duo took more care of her hair and waited until they were long enough.

“Three days back she got the haircut. I am super possessive about her hair and I thought that she would be very sad after cutting her hair. And she did cry for a moment after the haircut. It was a very proud feeling for me to see at such a young age, my daughter took a very bold decision and stood by it firmly,” added Minal.
