60-year-old trekker falls to death at Harishchandragad

PUNE: Arun Sawant, a trekker in his 60s, fell to his death on Sunday from the Konkan Kada edge of Harishchandragad in Ahmednagar.

Sawant was well-known for trekking in the State. He had come for climbing at Harishchandragad with a group of 30 trekkers on Saturday. While climbing the fort, the group members lost contact with him, said police. 

“We got the information about the incident on Saturday night, and with the help of rescue team and local villagers, we recovered his body at 2 pm on Sunday,” said the police.

The police added that Sawant was a resident of Mumbai, and was a part of a group of 30 trekkers and was setting up the ropes for team members for rappling. 

His body was found and the other team members were brought back safely, said the police.

Sahyadri Pratisthan Chairman Shramik Gojamgunde said, “Sawant was a key person in the trekking world.”
