54 per cent of consumers pay power bill of Rs 234 crore online

PUNE: The number of consumers paying electricity bills online has risen to 54 per cent in the city.
As many as 12.17 lakh consumers have used Mahavitaran website or mobile app to pay their bills. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has generated Rs 234 crore through online bill payment.
MSEDCL Pune region spokesperson Nishikant Raut said, “In Pune city, as many as 7.11 lakh electricity consumers have paid 135 crore bills online in the last month which is 54.20 per cent. Similarly, in Pimpri-Chinchwad, 3.23 lakh consumers (61 per cent) paid Rs 6.34 crore online bill. Meanwhile, in rural areas including Mulshi, Manchar and Rajgurunagar divisions, 1.82 lakh consumers paid Rs 35.30 crore bill online.”
The Mahavitaran has given a rebate of 0.25 per cent while paying through credit card. To avoid a queue for paying power bills, consumers can pay online.
Around 57 per cent of total consumers have paid electricity bills in Pune region in the last fortnight.
DIRECTIVE BY STATE GOVERNMENT
State Energy Minister Nitin Raut has directed Mahavitaran to maintain proper power supply for the convenience of the people who prefer to work from home and online considering the coronavirus threat. Raut has asked Mahavitaran to maintain proper power supply and avoid outages if not necessary. In case outages are unavoidable, the work should be completed as early as possible.
