50th organ donation done in city this yr

PUNE: A 23-year-old man was declared brain dead after he met with an accident. His family decided to donate his heart, kidney, liver, pancreas, lungs and cornea. This is the 50th organ donation in the city this year.

According to the doctors, the donor was a 23-year-old who met with an accident near Ranjangaon and was brought to the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. His mother, along with his three sisters, gave the consent for the donation. The 23-year-old worked as a driver. 

According to the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) Pune Coordinator Arti Gokhale, this was the 50th organ donation in the city. 
“Kidney, liver and pancreas transplants were done at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. While the heart was allocated to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune and another kidney to Sahyadri Hospital on Nagar Road, the lungs were sent to ZTCC Mumbai,” said Gokhale. She added that between January 1 till October 9, there have been 145 organ transplants in the city.
