2nd plant to convert plastic into fuel set up

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will set up a second facility at Ghole Road to convert plastic waste into fuel. The plant will have a capacity to process five tonnes of plastic waste which will produce around 1,600 litres of fuel per day.

The PMC is installing this plant with the help of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. The PMC had earlier set up the first plant as a part of a pilot project which processed one tonne plastic waste. It’s successful operations encouraged the civic body to set up the second plant.

Joint Municipal Commissioner PMC Solid Waste Management Department Dyaneshwar Molak said, “The Standing Committee has approved the proposal. PMC will provide land and electricity while CSR funds will be used for setting it up.” The PMC generates 2,000-2,100 tonnes of solid waste.
