28 applicants in race for SPPU registrar’s post

Pune: As many as 28 applications were received by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) for the post of registrar. The post was vacant for over a year and now suddenly there are many takers.

Temporary charge of the post of Registrar was given to Arvind Shaligram who is also one of the applicants. Meanwhile, according to Maharashtra Public University Act, 2016, a university should have a permanent registrar officiating on board.

A total of 40 applications were received out of which 28 applicants have been declared eligible for competing for the post, while the remaining 12 are ineligible. Dean of faculty and Head of PUMBA Department Prafulla Pawar is also one of the applicants.  Many of the applicants are from various colleges across the state.

“We have sent a letter to Governor of Maharashtra C Vidyasagar Rao requesting him to form an expert committee to recruit a permanent registrar at the university. As soon as we receive the names of panelists who will conduct the interviews, the procedure will be carried forward. It is expected that within a month, a new full-time registrar will be deployed in the university,” said Pro-Vice Chancellor NS Umarani.

One of the significant roles of the registrar is management of administration and other important official tasks in the university.
