15-year-old boy sodomised at an orphanage in Varanasi

PUNE: The city police have booked a mahant of an orphanage in Varanasi, for allegedly sodomising a 15-year-old boy.

According to the police, after the incident on March 27, the boy had fled and reached Pune. He was wandering when members of an NGO found him and brought him to the observation home in Shivajinagar. The boy was under trauma and during counselling, he narrated his ordeal.

Police officials said that his parents had abandoned him when he was very young and someone had admitted him to the orphanage in Lanka area of Varanasi. “The mahantji did bad things with me and threatened to kill me if I told anyone about it. To save myself, I fled from there,” the boy told the police.

The Pune police registered a zero FIR at Shivajinagar police station against the mahant, whose other details are not known, for offences under sections 377 (unnatural offences) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
