101st Rose Exhibition concludes

PUNE: More than 2,000 roses of 250 varieties from all around the world were exhibited at the 101st Rose Exhibition conducted by the Rose Society of Pune at Tilak Smarak Mandir, Pune. The show was inaugurated by Mayor Mukta Tilak on Saturday and concluded on Sunday.

A variety of roses including Classic Touch, Best Friend, Gladiator, God’s Particle, Double Delight, Louis Esten, Blue Ocean and much more were exhibited by 30 participants, mostly home gardeners from Pune while some participants joined from Kalyan and Vangani.

Western Style, Free Style, and Ikebana were the flower arrangements displayed in the exhibition. Around 16 stalls selling colourful flowers, garden equipment, fertilisers, seeds and pesticides attracted attention of visitors.

Chandralekha Jagtap, President of Rose society of Pune, said, “From 30 participants, six were declared winners. We inspect the roses on their size, colour and petals.” Prize distribution was held on Sunday in which Sharad Gatne, former president, The Rose Society of Pune, was the chief guest.

Mayor Tilak said, “The growing trend of flower cultivation and showcasing them in such exhibitions, motivates not only elders but also the youngsters towards cultivation. The exhibition not only educates people on cultivation but also makes people happy to come and experience the roses of our country.”
