1 held for smuggling 1.69 kg gold at airport

According to officials, the passenger had arrived at Pune international airport from Dubai by Spice Jet flight number SG-52 at 4.15 am on December 7.

PUNE: A man from Thane has been arrested by Pune Customs Department at the airport for allegedly smuggling 1.69 kg gold worth Rs 41.08 lakh from Dubai. 

As per a press release issued by Joint Commissioner of Customs Vaishali Patange, the passenger, Nawaz Shamshuddin Pawle of Mumbra in Thane, had concealed gold in a car air compressor machine in his check-in baggage.

According to officials, the passenger had arrived at Pune international airport from Dubai by Spice Jet flight number SG-52 at 4.15 am on December 7. 

The concealed gold was designed to be part of the car air compressor machine and was recovered by the officers by dismantling the said 
compressor.
 
Pune Customs Deputy Commissioner Dr Motilal Shete supervised the team comprising officers Sudhanshu Khaire and Madhav Palnitkar who nabbed the passenger.
