‘Take measures against spread of COVID-19’

PUNE: The National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has issued an advisory to all states and Union Territories (UTs) to take measures against the spread of Coronavirus. The advisory also mentions that school children should be made aware of the precautions to be taken against the spread of Coronavirus. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has also issued a similar advisory.

“As the school going children are susceptible to infection and since it is the end of the academic year and examinations, it calls for strict measures to be taken against the spread of the epidemic,” stated a notice signed by NCPCR Chairperson Priyank Kanoongo.

The commission, in consultation with the State Health Department, has asked the State Education Department to take necessary steps. While schools in Delhi have been shut till March 31 due to Coronavirus, the Government has stated that there is no need for the schools and parents to panic in other cities and the advisory has been issued strictly as a preventive measure.

The MHRD has also prepared an information pamphlet and has asked to circulate the same in schools.

Anybody with signs or symptoms have been advised to call state/UT helpline numbers or Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s 24x7 helpline number 011-23978046 or visit public health facility with a mask or mouth covered.

Although, no positive cases have been found in Pune yet, a few schools have started taking the necessary preventive measures.

“The Independent English Schools Association (IESA) has issued recommendations to all private schools across the State, which includes instructing the students to avoid coming to schools in case of cough, cold, flu and fever-like symptoms. With this, they

have also to postpone travel plans, larger gatherings which include teachers and students. Setting up of a team at every school to take care of sanitisation of doorknobs, switches, desktops, hand railings, etc,” said the notice by the IESA.

WHAT TO TELL YOUR STUDENTS
- Ask the students to refrain from touching eyes, nose and mouth frequently.
- Students should be asked to cover their mouths with a tissue or handkerchief when they cough or sneeze.
- Encourage students to wash their hands often.
- If sick students are found attending schools, ask their parents to take them home.
