‘Rs 449 cr already given to affected farmers’

PUNE: Deputy Chairman of Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) Neelam Gorhe on Wednesday said that aid of Rs 449 crore has already been disbursed to farmers who were recently affected due to floods in Pune district.

She was addressing a press meeting at the Council Hall. Talking to reporters, Gorhe said the State had requested the Centre for aid of Rs 389 crore which is yet to be received.

Similarly, Rs 220 crore was sought from the Centre to help people whose houses were damaged in the recent floods in the district.

“Following the recent accidents, there is a need to work on finding ways to prevent accidents in the city and so barricades and side walls will be placed on required spots like Katraj Ghat, Satara Road, Bopdev Ghat, Dive Ghat and other areas. Similarly, religious spots like Alandi, Jejuri, Ekvira Temple and others will be developed,” added Gorhe.
