“There are several important projects which need to be carried out on priority. A flood-like situation might develop in Sangli therefore we are planning to increase the height of the Almatti dam,” Ajit Pawar said.

PUNE: Pune district has a total budget outlay of Rs 625 crore for the financial year 2020-21, which is Rs 104.22 crore more than the previous financial year. In the last one year there has been Rs 98 crore less budget amount received in Pune district from a approved fund of Rs 619 crore for development of districts,” said Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

He was addressing media persons on Monday at the Divisional Commissioner’s office in Pune. “There are several important projects which need to be carried out on priority. A flood-like situation might develop in Sangli therefore we are planning to increase the height of the Almatti dam,” he said, adding that some technical errors are there, as claimed by the locals, and will be detected soon.

The government is considering suggestions by leaders and local people from the drought-affected districts about diversion of water from flood-affected areas to drought-hit districts of the State, said Pawar.

When asked about fund allocation for the Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan launched by previous State government, he said the scheme launched by any previous state government would not be scrapped but Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan was integration of many small schemes and funds will be allocated as per need.

He said funds will be given for developing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj museum and a new medical college on 25 acres of land in Satara.

“Funds will be given to flood affected families in Pune division, for development of Mahalaxmi temple in Kolhapur, for building new auditorium at Kolhapur, new hospital at Ichalkaranji, and ropeway at Sajjangad,” said Pawar.

He said during floods, the State called the NDRF, because they came to know from locals of Sangli and Kolhapur that they do not have enough boats for rescue. Therefore the government will allot a fund to purchase boats and local youths will be trained for that.

The meeting was attended by Pune Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar and Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram.
