‘Provide two helmets to vehicle buyers’

PUNE: State Additional Transport Commissioner AN Balchandra has directed the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) to instruct its members (two-wheeler manufacturers) to strictly adhere to the rules laid by the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court and provide two helmets as per BSI standards to buyers.

As per the letter dated on March 5, the transport commissioner has written that if manufacturers failed to provide helmets, then registration of two-wheelers for that particular manufacturer will be stopped.

With reference to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) 09/2019, the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court had passed an order on February 2, directing to stop the registrations of two-wheelers in the State if the rule of providing two helmets to the buyers was not followed by the manufacturers.
