‘Provide paper bag making training to SHGs in Pune’

Pune: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporators demanded that training in paper bag making be provided  to Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the background of the plastic ban across the State. They put forth the demand to PMC Social Development Department.

BJP corporators met city President Yogesh Gogawale in Social Development Department office at Daruwala Bridge area on Friday. Women and Child Welfare Development Committee Chairman Rajshree Navale, Saidisha Mane, Manisha Ladkat, Gyatri Khadake, Rupali Dhadave and Vrishali Choudhari also were present. Gogawale criticised the corporation’s Social Development Department’s work.

They alleged that the department is not working properly, most of the schemes are outdated, funds are not utilised properly. The corporation doesn’t spend five per cent funds on the welfare of scheduled caste and tribes, which is mandatory as per law. There is no coordination between Central, State and Corporation schemes. They are overlapping each other.
Yogesh Gogawale instructed administration, “They should implement Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) effectively, conduct surveys of families in slum areas and restructure old development schemes, form policy for women and make awareness of different corporation run schemes in the city area.”
Committee Chairman Rajshree Navale said, “Administration has to include paper bag training to Self help Groups. They should also provide sanitary napkins to PMC school going girls. Department must provide self defence training too.”

Sandhya Gagare, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Social Development Department, briefed the corporators during meet.
