‘Happy with SC order, probe to continue’

‘Happy with SC order, probe to continue’

Pune: Police Commissioner K Venkatesham on Friday appreciated the stand taken by the Supreme Court (SC) which refused to interfere with the arrest of five activists who were recently arrested by the city police.

The five activists comprising Varavara Rao, lawyer Sudha Bhardwaj, Arun Ferreira, Vernon Gonsalves and Gautam Navlakha are under house arrest by a Supreme Court order since August 29 and will continue to be following the SC order on Friday.

These activists were detained on August 28 from various cities for their alleged involvement in the Koregaon-Bhima violence case by the Pune police.

“Following the decision by SC, the option to make more arrests is open for us. Today’s judgement is a recognition of professional work done by the investigating team. We congratulate ACP Shivaji Pawar and DCP Suhas Bawche for their sheer hard work and professionalism which led to the arrests during the last week of August.

The arrests were a culmination of three months of intense work put in by our men in unearthing the conspiracy behind Koregaon-Bhima incident,” added Venkatesham.
