Pune: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday blamed the Congress-led government for the present banking crisis and called it a ‘Phone Banking’ scam by the Congress, which led to the present situation of Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) in banking industry.
“It was their (Congress) leaders calling up the banks and sanctioning the loans. But we assure you that corruption and these scams will be dealt with iron hands and the culprits will not be spared,” added Javadekar, who was commenting on the recent revelation of the connection between Jignesh Shah and Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
Javadekar was speaking to reporters following the Disha meeting on Monday. The Central government has decided to coordinate with the State government for the timely implementation of Central schemes.
Central government officials meet the State government officials once every three months to take a review of the implementation of such schemes. Javadekar said that on Monday, he took a review of schemes of the Railway Department, Telephone Department, Post Office and Mudra scheme. Javadekar said that 6.6 lakh people have availed a loan of Rs 6,000 crore under the Mudra scheme and government will ask all bank officials to make a presentation on different buisinesses using the Mudra loans.
The minister further added that 13 lakh Jandhan accounts were created, around 12 lakh people have registered themselves under the Rs 12 Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana. Similarly, 9 lakh people have registered for the Rs 330 Jeevan Bima Yojana. In terms of pension schemes, around 70,000 have registered themselves under the Atal Pension Yojana and 721 people have availed loand under the Stand-Up India Scheme, which facilitates bank loans between 10 lakh and 1 crore.
“We are all aware of the new postal bank schemes. Soon, 891 new post banks will be opened in the district. In terms of setting up high optical fibre network in 872 gram panchayats of Pune, work is completed in 371 such panchayats and remaining 501 gram panchayats will have the facility of 50 MBPS optical fibre by March,” said Javadekar.
He said that the work of building and repairing platforms at different stations in Pune is in progress. “Pune station will get new five escalators and also, the land acquisition work at Daund station is in progress, which will expedite the train speed by 35 minutes,” he said.
