Pune: The Ramnagar Colony in Bavdhan, has more than 50 housing societies besides independent bungalows and plots. One of the most beautiful residential colonies in the city, the colony management works on the motto, ‘Community development through community participation’.
Though each housing society is run by its own managing committee, the overall management is looked after by a centrally elected mandal which looks after the day-to-day functioning of the areas commonly used by all within the premises of the colony. The colony has about 5,000 residents.
There is cultural diversity and harmony and spirit of cooperation amongst all who reside here. The current managing committee or mandal believes in the premise of ‘Community Development through Community Participation’ and has formed volunteer groups to look after the security, cleaning, beautification, events and road maintenance of the society.
The community houses many ex-armed-forces officers as well as personalities from various fields. Many of these residents have taken initiatives and have formed special interest groups such as the Book Readers’ Club, Animal Welfare Club etc. Each of these groups has ongoing activities and events periodically arranged for all residing in the colony. The colony also attracts birds and wildlife and makes living there an enjoyable experience for all environment lovers. In line with the rest of the country, Ramnagar takes pride in driving cleanliness and environmentally sustainable practices. Special awareness programs are run for garbage segregation, wet waste composting, plastic segregation and waste disposal. Several cleaning drives had been arranged in which residents took part.
Ramnagar celebrates national festivals with army veterans. The annual funfair is a very popular event with over 50 booths, set up by Ramnagar entrepreneurs displaying their products and culinary skills.
