3,500 students, 40 firms participate in the first APG Learning job fair

PUNE: APG Learning on Thursday organised its first job fair ‘Rise’ at the All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society’’s (AISSMS) Institute of Information Technology (AIOT) campus.

Chief Guest Avantika Bharadwaj, Head of Human Resource (HR), Tieto Company inaugurated the event. Dr Pradeep Mane, Chairman of Institute of Information Technology, Pune, AISSMS College, Vikas Singh, Chief Executive Officer of APG Learning were present.

Over 3,500 students from various IT backgrounds registered themselves at the event. In all, 40 companies from IT, BPO, IT coding, IT allied sectors participated in the fair. The companies had around 1,400 vacancies. Salary packages ranged from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8.40 lakh per annum.

During the inaugural speech, Bharadwaj said as per the Skill Report, five years ago, there was only 37 per cent employability in India. This year’s report states that there is 57 per cent employability in India. Colleges and students made lots of efforts to raise the status of employability.

She added that the digital workforce is mainly coming from cities such as Bengaluru, Delhi and Pune. Hence, students from Pune are at the right place to launch their career. A job fair provides a good platform, where one does not have to search a company matching one’s profile. They can choose a company and technology of their choice here.

Mane said the objective behind the job fair is to give a platform to the students from rural areas. Reputed companies cannot reach out to them at their native place. Companies also have employees from a variety of backgrounds. The number of job fairs has increased in recent years. APG Learning imparts employability skills to most of the students and jobs are made easily available to them.

Motivational speeches by the chief guest and the principal inspired the students, who took part in the fair. Neelam Shinde, a student of polytechnic from Satara was earlier nervous as it was her first experience of a job fair. After listening to Bharadwaj’s speech, she said, “I have come from Patan taluka of Satara district. Women there are educated but are not employed. Bharadwaj madam said that women are making their mark in each sector. After listening to this, I think, even if I come from a small village, I can make my mark by showcasing my knowledge and proving my skills in a reputed company.”

Another student Tushar Thakre, who came from Dhule, said, “I have done BSc in agriculture and MBA. I just don’t want to showcase my academic knowledge, but the company should select me on the basis of my other skills as well.”

WHAT HR LOOKS FOR?
Janmen Joy Mohato, HR recruiter of Tech Mahindra from Viman Nagar, said, “Before coming to any job fair, students should be well informed about the post that they are applying for and about the company as well. APG Learning has provided a dynamic platform for the students to prove their skills and knowledge.”

Madulika Singh, HR Head, Just Dial, said, “The initiative by APG Learning will prove important for the students because there are jobs in many companies but students do not get a platform to get through it.”

Sunny Pawar, HR Head, Hinduja Global Solutions, said, “APG Learning has provided a simple and free platform for the students to get their job interviews cleared in a day and go back home with happy faces. Such platforms prove important to many students as they are able to show their knowledge in the field that they are looking for.”

Bhupesh Kumbhar, Managing Director, Zencon, said, “We have diverse portfolios. We do not only require technical students but also students who have business understanding or business solutions so that they can simplify processes and bring new ideas to the business. For this, APG Learning has provided us and the students a fruitful opportunity, where both the sides can benefit equally.”
