COVID-19 outbreak threat looms large over preferred localities of IT professionals

Coronavirus seems to have gripped the locality with a sudden jump in cases to 26 now - 9 from Pimple Saudagar, 15 from Pimple Gurav and two from Pimple Nilakh.

Pimpri: Pimple Gurav, Pimple Saudagar and Pimple Nilakh - the three localities in Pimpri-Chinchwad where most of the Information Technology (IT) professionals and officers stay - has seen a steep rise in the COVID-19 infected persons. A total of 26 persons have tested positive for Covid-19 disease till now.

Since the coronavirus outbreak, these three areas had recorded only 9 cases, out of which seven persons had recovered and two were undergoing treatment. However, the coronavirus seems to have gripped the locality with a sudden jump in cases to 26 now - 9 from Pimple Saudagar, 15 from Pimple Gurav and two from Pimple Nilakh.

Historically, the three villages Pimple Gurav, Pimple Saudagar and Pimple Nilakh have contributed to the development of the twin township and industrial hub of Pimpri Chinchwad. These villages have been a political power centre for decades. With the IT parks developed in Hinjewadi and other areas, most of the working IT professionals chose to reside in these areas.

Out of the 15 persons identified positively in the Pimple Gurav area, eight have recovered and returned home, while seven are still undergoing treatment. In the Pimple Nilakh area, only one case was identified so far and that person too was sent home after a mandatory quarantine of 14 days. But now one more case has been detected in this area and the patient has been admitted to hospital. In Pimple Saudagar too, out of nine patients, seven have recovered and two are undergoing treatment.
