TikTok competitor Mitron gets suspended from Google Play Store

Mitron, the app recently renowned and listed as one of India's TikTok competitors, has been removed from the Google Play Store. The app, designed by a developer in Pakistan, has been removed as Google's 'spam and minimum functionality' policy was violated. After CNBC TV18 approached Google for details of its promoters, they soon suspended the app.

The policy states "We don't allow apps that merely provide the same experience as other apps already on Google Play. Apps should provide value to users through the creation of unique content or services."

This is similar to the comment by the founder and CEO of Qboxus, Irfan Sheikh, from whom the app was purchased. Speaking to Sheik, News18 confirmed that after the IIT student purchased the app, the TicTic (now Mitron) application did not make any real changes. The app went live on Google Play Store by just changing the name and the logo.

"We expect our customers to use our code and build something on their own. But Mitron's developer has taken our exact product, changed the logo and uploaded it on their store," Sheikh told the media.

Shiekh said "There is no problem with what the developer has done. He paid for the script and used it, which is okay. But, the problem is with people referring to it as an Indian-made app, which is not true, especially because they have not made any changes."

As stated in the reports, the app did not have its own privacy policy until the media approached, raising concerns about the app's legitimacy. In addition to this, there has been a recent report stating how Mitron has a significant vulnerability, and hackers can gain access to the account exploiting the loopholes.

The identity of the person/company that currently owns the Mitron app is still unknown.
