Telangana BJP Leader tests positive for coronavirus

BJP leader Chintala Ramachandra Reddy from Telangana has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. According to reports, he is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital, Jubilee Hills.

The former Khairatabad MLA got admitted to the hospital on Sunday night suspected with COVID-19 symptoms, his swab samples were then collected and sent to a government-run hospital; the results came out positive. It is possible that he contracted the virus from Delhi, as he had gone there for a meeting.

However, hospital sources inform, he is in a stable condition now. Chintala Ramachandra Reddy is one of the notable senior BJP leaders. 

Soon after, his wife and son were also admitted to Apollo Hospital, and their samples have been sent for COVID-19 testing.

On Monday, Telangana reported 94 new cases and six deaths for coronavirus. The updated record for the state is 2,792 cases in total with 88 deaths, as per Public Health and Family Welfare Media Bulletin. As of now, there have been 1,491 discharges in the State.

Tamilisai Soundararajan, Governor of Telangana, tweeted "Worried about the surge in coronavirus positive cases in #Telengana state despite efforts." She has also requested residents to be extremely careful while stepping out.

Director of Health, Dr Srinivas Roa has extended concern and said, "After the lockdown relaxations, there has been a spike in cases and people with hypertension, diabetes, cardiac illness, chronic kidney disease, chronic pulmonary disease, and any other chronic illness patients must stay indoors and avoid any travel."

India's coronavirus cases have now crossed 198,706 as of today, claiming 5,598 lives.
