Swachh Survekshan 2020: Indore retains top spot, Navi Mumbai ranks third

The Centre announced the results of annual survey of cleanliness, Swachh Survekshan 2020 on Thursday. Maintaining the winning streak Indore has booked the top spot as the cleanest city of India. The city has clinched the title for fourth time in a row. Surat, Navi Mumbai, Vijaywada bagged the second, third and fourth spot respectively.
Indore which won the first position has 5,647.56 score followed by Surat with 5,519.59 and Navi Mumbai with 5,467.89. Talking about the cities in Maharashtra, Nashik has bagged 11th spot with Thane on 14 and Pune on 15th position.
This is the fifth version of the survey that was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2016. A total of 129 top cities and states were bestowed in the virtual programme called ‘Swachh Mahotsav’. This programme has been prepared by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Swachh Survekshan is meant to screen the performance of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which was launched in 2014.
4,242 cities, 62 cantonment boards and 92 Ganga towns were covered in Swachh Survekshan 2020. This survey was carried out in 28 days.
