Suresh Raina's uncle passes away, aunt critical after unidentified attack

The Chennai Super Kings spearhead Suresh Raina flew back home on Saturday, August 29, and set to miss the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. There have been many speculations regarding his sudden departure.

According to reports, Raina's uncle died after a midnight attack in their Pathankot's Thariyal village and his aunt is in critical condition. On 19th August by some unidentified assailants attacked them with lethal weapons while the family was sleeping on the terrace.

His uncle, Ashok Kumar, 58, succumbed to death. His cousins Kaushal Kumar, 32, and Apin Kumar, 24, also sustained injuries. Earlier in a tweet, the franchise mentioned, "Suresh Raina has returned to India for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of the IPL season. Chennai Super Kings offers complete support to Suresh Raina and his family during this time."

On August 15 Suresh Raina announced his retirement from international cricket on social media only after his friend and former Indian captain MS Dhoni announced his retirement. In this pandemic, it won't be a cakewalk for the franchise to find out a suitable replacement

Only yesterday, August 28, 12 CSK members and a fast bowler tested positive for the COVID-19 just ahead of the season. The IPL 13 the edition is ready to start from September 19 in the UAE.
