During the CWC meeting on Monday, Congress President Sonia Gandhi asked members to elect a new party President. At the crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee, Sonia Gandhi had asked CWC to elect a new President.

In an unparalleled move in the history of Indian National Congress, 23 leaders of Congress, including five former Chief Ministers, current MPs Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tiwari, members of Congress Working Committee and over a dozen former union ministers, had penned a letter to party chief on Sunday, asking her to go for “sweeping changes” in the party and stop its “steady decline”.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked her to continue to lead the party. Also, former Defence Minister AK Antony termed the letter, written by senior leaders of the party, cruel.
