Rajya Sabha polls: COVID-19 positive Congress MLA casts his vote wearing PPE kit

Rajya Sabha polls: COVID-19 positive Congress MLA casts his vote wearing PPE kit

Ex-BSP MLA Wajib Ali who joined the Congress in 2019, cast his vote for Rajya Sabha elections donning a PPE kit on Friday after he returned from Australia on Thursday.

BJP meanwhile lodged a complaint at the police station and also wrote a letter to return officer requesting stern action against him for flouting the quarantine norms under Pandemic Act as defined by Home Ministry and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

As per the said guidelines, he should have followed the 14-day quarantine period after travelling from abroad, however, the leader appeared in person at the Assembly which brought in a little scare amongst those present at the Assembly.

Thereafter, a doctors'' team from SMS reached the Assembly and conducted his COVID-19 test. The MLA waited for his result for over an hour and once his test came negative, he wrapped himself in the PPE kit and went to cast his vote.

MLA told NDTV, "I reached Vidhan Sabha around 12.45 pm in an ambulance, with full precaution wearing a PPE kit, the officials were also wearing PPE kit, though I felt they were a bit scared, which is natural. I voted for my party candidate and came back.”

However, BJP leaders expressed their anguish over the issue and got a complaint lodged at Jyoti Nagar police station in Jaipur.

BJP leader Surendra Naruka lodged a complaint against Wajib Ali for casting his vote for Rajya Sabha polls flouting the COVID-19 guidelines. BJP MLA Ramlal Sharma also wrote a letter to the returning officer alleging that the MLA flouted all guidelines of health and family welfare and home ministry and hence strong action should be taken against him for risking the lives of many.
