Rajasthan political crisis: Congress sacks Sachin Pilot; CM Gehlot meets Governor

The political crisis continues in Rajasthan as the Congress party sacked Sachin Pilot from the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan for his revolt against the party as he bounced the second meeting of MLAs in two consecutive days. Also, two other ministers who joined Pilot in his revolt have also been dropped.

Soon after, the Deputy CM was sacked, he broke his silence and expressed on Twitter by saying, truth can be disturbed, not defeated.

Earlier on Tuesday, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala stated Sachin Pilot was ‘ensnared’ by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) to bring down the Congress regime in the state. On Sunday, Pilot had announced that the Ashok Gehlot government in the state was in a minority since 30 MLAs were supporting him.

"We have given Sachin Pilot number of opportunities. He has been a Member of Parliament and MoS and a state party president. I am sad that Pilot and some of his other mates have fallen for a trap laid by the BJP. This is unacceptable," he said.

On the other side, Chief Minister of the state Ashok Gehlot drove down to Raj Bhavan to make a formal appeal to the Governor to drop Pilot and two ministers from his cabinet as soon as the meeting of officials was over. The two ministers who have been sacked are Ramesh Meena and Vishvendra Singh. Congress lawmaker Ganesh Ghogra now has been selected to head the Rajasthan’s youth Congress unit, replacing Mukesh Bhakar.

According to reports, the Congress now has 100 MLAs, the half-way mark in the 200-member assembly, after three MLAs left the camp on Tuesday.  CM Gehlot had sent MLAs in buses to a hotel straight from a show of strength at his residence on Monday, revealing his worry over the threat from Pilot.

Meanwhile, a high alert was issued in Gujjar-dominated areas of the desert state to avert any untoward happening. Pilot has strong support in the Gujjar belt in Rajasthan. The Congress said Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders from the party had tried to connect with Sachin Pilot but it went in vain.
