Prime Minister Narendra Modi extends coronavirus lockdown till May 3

“The lockdown has been extended till May 3. The coronavirus should be curbed at every level. Even if one person dies due to coronavirus, our tension should increase. That is why hotspots in different regions will under surveillance with extended vigilance and harsh steps will be taken to curtail the spread of coronavirus,” said the Prime Minister.

“Whatever relaxations granted during the lockdown to some parts in India will be upon conditions. Even if one such case is reported, the relaxations will be taken back”, he added. 

Prime Minister started his address to the nation, saying, India is doing well to tackle the coronavirus nation and also thanked people on the frontline of the novel coronavirus battle.

On the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar, PM Modi stated, “In our constitution, ‘We the People’ is written, and this fight is what it signifies and today it is the symbolic remembrance to his anniversary.”

Talking about daily wage workers, Prime Minister said that the new guidelines would be made keeping their interests in mind. Rabi crops cutting is on, and the measures will be taken to reduce their problems.

While adding on the social distancing, he said, “It may seem expensive to carry out, it is necessary to save the lives of Indians. Even with limited resources, India is boding well.”

The PM also announced that all the districts would be monitored closely till April 20 and places that aren’t hotspots could be allowed to resume important activities with conditions in place.

A proper report on the lockdown and its measures will be issued on Wednesday. Meanwhile, India has crossed the mark of 10,000 positive cases with the death toll reaching over 350. Globally, the infected cases are nearing the two million mark with almost 1.2 lakh deaths. The virus that originated in Wuhan, China, has the world in its grip with countries like the United States, Spain and Italy being the worst affected.

PM MODI UNDERLINES SEVEN STEPS TO FOLLOW:

  1. Take proper care of the senior citizens of your house, especially those with health problems.
  2. Follow the lockdown and social distancing properly. Home-made face covers and masks should be used.
  3. Increase your immunity by following directions given by AYUSH Ministry.
  4. To help curb coronavirus spread, download Aarogya Setu application.
  5. Wherever possible, help poor families.
  6. Coronavirus ‘‘soldiers’’-- doctors, nurses, sanitation workers -- respect them
  7. Help your co-workers. Don’t downsize people.

While the PM assured that our healthcare system has been progressing to accommodate more treatment, he has asked citizens to remain vigilant and wished them good health against the menace.
