Former President Pranab Mukherjee tests positive for COVID-19

Former President Pranab Mukherjee has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Taking to Twitter, Mukherjee said that he has tested positive for the contagion on Monday today while he was on a visit to the hospital for a separate process. 

"On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for COVID-19," Mukherjee tweeted.

Soon after the former President posted the update on the social media platform, wishes for his speedy recovery poured.

A number of political leaders have been tested positive for the novel coronavirus recently which includes Union ministers Amit Shah, Dharmendra Pradhan, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Vishvas Sarang, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, B Sriramulu, Karnataka Chief Minister, agriculture minister BC Patil and Congress' leader of the opposition, Siddaramaiah and Karti Chidambaram to name a few.

Meanwhile, over 62,000 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in India. According to the latest reports issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), a sharp rise of 62,064 cases in the last 24 hours has taken India's coronavirus case total to 22,15,075. On the positive front, 15,35,744 people have recovered after contracting the contagion. India has also reported over 1,000 fatalities in 24 hours taking the death total nationwide to 44,386.
