Efforts being made to paint me with 'saffron' colour, says Rajinikanth

Chennai: Unhappy with his name being tainted by associating it with 'Bharatiya Janata Party' (BJP), superstar Rajinkanth on Friday said that he was not invited by BJP to join the party. He also said that it was a plot against him by a section of media and a 'few persons', however he refused to name them.

While talking to media persons on host of subjects onThursday at Chennai said that his name was unnecessarily being associated with BJP and its allies.  His statement has come at the backdrop of recent controversy surrounding the Tamil saint-poet.

Emphatically making it clear that he was never being invited by BJP, he said that he never received in invitation from them. He also denied that his association with BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan has anything to do with it.

He said, “attempts were being made to defame me like Thiruvalluvar, the Tamiy saint-poet but none of us will get trapped into this web.

However, he also did not let down the possibility that if ever he was contacted by the party, he will think over it.

The controversy erupted after BJP's TN unit Twitter handle wrote a few lines from Thirukkural.

Meanwhile, BJP while replying to Rajinkant's statement said that it was not unparliamentary for any person to be 'invited or allowed', in the party. BJP  national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao said, “celebrities or well-known persons joining the party across the nation.

Responding to Rajinikanth's statement, the BJP said it was its democratic right to meet somebody.

If anybody is interested they were "allowed and invited to join," BJP National General Secretary P Muralidhar Rao said, adding a number of celebrities and eminent persons all over the country including from Tamil Nadu were joining it.

But we have never said that Rajinikant has joined or joining the party.
