Earthquake tremors felt in Delhi

Amid the nationwide lockdown, Delhi reported its third earthquake, early today afternoon. The earthquake followed a massive dust storm and light rainfall in the city. Post which a considerable fall in temperature was also reported.
The earthquake was measured at 3.4 on the Richter Scale according to the National Center for Seismology.


"Intensity was 3.4 on the Richter Scale. The epicentre was near Delhi-UP Border," reported Met Department Director Seismology, JL Gautam.
The earthquake occurred at 1.45 pm at a depth of five kilometres as reported by PTI news agency.
The last two earthquakes reported in Delhi - one of which measuring 2.7 magnitudes - had hit the city last month. The epicentre of both these previous earthquakes was reported in the same region.
Though Delhi falls under the fourth of the five seismic zones. Tremors are felt in Delhi when a quake occurs as far as central Asia or in the Himalayan range, falling in the high seismic zone. However, Delhi has rarely been the epicentre of an earthquake.
