COVID-19: Karnataka makes 21-day quarantine period mandatory for Maharashtra returnees

Maharashtra returnees to go through three-week quarantine returning to Karnataka. The isolation period includes 7 days of institutional quarantine and 2 weeks of home quarantine.

Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Health Commissioner, tweeted, "Returnees from Maharashtra will be sent to institutional quarantine for seven days, followed by 14 days’ strict home quarantine, total 21 days."

Since most of the coronavirus cases in Karnataka have a domestic travel history, the 21-day isolation is especially for asymptomatic Maharashtra returnees.

COVID test is mandatory for people returning from Maharashtra if asymptomatic people happen to develop COVID-19 symptoms.

Maharashtra returnees have few exceptions during the 21-day quarantine, and they will be titled as special category passengers. Pregnant women, children below, elderly people (60+), people with chronic diseases, and someone who witnessed death in the family, are recognised as special category passengers.

Special arrangements have been made for business travellers as well. "To establish that one is a business visitor, (that) person should show confirmed return flight or train ticket which should not be more than seven days later from the date of arrival," announced TM Vijay Bhaskar, Chief Secretary.

Business visitors travelling via road must provide address proof of the person/company they are visiting. Adding to the guidelines, the visitors must show a COVID-19 negative medical certificate that is 2-day old.

Guidelines for people returning from Maharashtra are enhanced to control the spread of coronavirus. While Maharashtra has few changes, other state returnees may not have such strict rules.
