China-based TikTok removed 1.65 crore videos from India: Reports

Recently, India banned 59 Chinese apps including the world-famous application TikTok. 

However, according to the Transparency Report 2020 released by TikTok, the application removed 1.65 crore videos from India recorded and uploaded last year. As per media reports, the ByteDance owned social media entertainment application said that they had to remove the videos as most of them didn't follow the norms of 'adult nudity and sexual activities' curated by the application.

TikTok said that the videos also portrayed and promoted the consumption of alcohol, drugs, violation, and self-harm. The Chinese behemoth revealed that out of the total videos removed, one per cent of the videos broke the TikTok policies and used the platform to spread hate speech. The videos were also against integrity and authenticity.

According to media reports, TikTok removed several videos from other countries as well, however, India stands first in the list, with the maximum videoes deleted for violation of the policies. 

The United States comes a close second with 4.6 million videos being removed, Pakistan has 3.7 million videos removed from TikTok. Russia, with 2 million videos removed and the United Kingdom has 1.3 million videos removed by the application itself.

TikTok also mentioned in its report, that in the second half of last year it received over 500 requests compared to the first half of 2019 which only received 296 requests. The social media application also said, it always shared the required data with the governments.
