Chartered Accountant exams to be held in November

Chartered Accountant exams to be held in November

Pune: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) announced on Saturday that Chartered Accountant (CA) examinations for this year have been postponed by four months and will now be conducted in November. The increasing number of Covid-19 cases, students returning to their native places and problems in conducting exams in such situations has forced the institute to postpone the examinations.

The ICAI conducts CA exams in May and November months that is twice a year. The institute had declared the timetable for the exam scheduled for May 2020. Many students had applied for this exam. Meanwhile, lockdown was announced in the country and most of the students returned to their native places. These students did not return after relaxations in lockdown were given. The institute had planned to conduct the exam in July, but since students have not returned yet, the government has extended the lockdown and schools and colleges are also asked to remain closed, the institute has decided to delay the exam.

The institute had also given an option to students who had applied for the July exam to appear for the examination in November. Many students were away from their allocated exam centre, so the institute had also given them a choice to select an exam centre close to their home.

Students, however, did not respond to this, as they feared losing out. Since the educational institutes were also closed, it was difficult to conduct the exams. Considering all these aspects, ICAI decided to cancel their July exam and conduct exams in November. Those students who have paid the July exam fee will be eligible to appear for the November exam.

Ruta Chitale, former head of Pune Chapter of ICAI said, “Due to the Covid-19 fear, many students have gone to their native place. They were offered a choice of selecting an exam centre closer to their native home. But due to the evolving coronavirus situation, we were also finding it difficult to arrange for supervisors and educational institutes. Students will now get more time to prepare for the exam. Also, students who were preparing for one group of exams can also prepare for another group exam.”
