Pride month 2020: A virtual celebration with Pride circle's ally challenge and VH1's Pride parade

In commemoration of the unconditional spirit of love and diversity, June stands for Global Pride Month. The month is a worldwide tribute to the LGBTQIA+ community to celebrate the spirit of equality and free choice.

This month marks Pride Month's 50th anniversary however, this year many celebrations will look different, as people have to be confined to their homes to curb the spread of COVID-19. According to a global list by the European Pride Organizers Association, almost 500 LGBTQ events have been cancelled or postponed amid the coronavirus pandemic. And some LGBTQ organizations also choose to use this time to stand in solidarity with the Movement for Black Lives Matter.

For this year, the LGBTQ communities move online to celebrate Pride Month.

Pride circle

India's Pride circle has come out with #21DaysAllyChallenge to create a global movement for equal rights and fair treatment for LGBT+.

The challenge is aimed at bringing together individuals and influencers from more than 28 countries and 70 organizations to build a global LGBT+ allies community.

Kicked off on June 1, the challenge started with encouragement "to slip into someone else’s shoes, and peek into their lived experience" by reading a coming-out story of LGBT+ individuals. Till date, the challenges included; increasing awareness in oneself based on "Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Gender Expression, and Sex Characteristics", introspection on why you are striving to be an ally, learn about laws around LGBT+ in one's respective country, the challenge also included watching an LGBT+ movie and aligning yourself with a symbol representing yourself as an ally to the community and why.

Today is just day 6 of this #21DaysAllyChallenge, participants can register themselves on the official website to take up these mini awareness challenges and support the movement.
