Senior citizens win hearts with vigour

PUNE: Age is just a number, the senior citizens who participated in the four races proved on Sunday by matching the steps of youngsters.

Coming all the way from Haryana, 61-year-old Laxman Singh and Dhaniram Yadav (66) added this race in Pune to their list of marathons they have participated in so far. 

Yadav has participated in 65 marathons till now, the first being Bangalore Marathon in 2015. Since then, the retired Delhi cop has participated in almost all major races across the country.

Singh, who participated in Delhi marathon last year, said, "The youth should be inspired to participate in such races. We both are fit at this age due to good food, family support and hard work."

A couple aged 66 and 63 from Satara also participated in the marathon. Nagorao Namdev and wife Sonabai participated in the 5-km race for the second time together.

Namdev, who is a farmer, said, “My son is in the Army and posted in Pune Cantonment. He motivated us to run for 5 km."

Sonabai said, “I got a new experience of how marathons are organised. After running here, I feel I can beat my husband in the next run.”
