Unseasonal rainfall hits rabi crops in State

PUNE: The unseasonal rainfall in different parts of Maharashtra on Saturday and Sunday have caused destruction of rabi crops that were ready to be harvested.

Wheat, jowar and grapes were the most adversely affected crops. The flowering of mango and other fruits will also be affected.

Districts of Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Latur, Osmanabad, Solapur and Satara were amongst the areas hit by heavy unseasonal rainfall on Saturday night and Sunday morning, which ranged between 0.43 to 1.39 mm.

In Satara, jowar, bajra (pearl millets) and grapes have been hit badly.

In Marathwada, wheat and jowar, which were ready to be harvested, were swept away by the heavy winds that accompanied the rainfall.

Even the harvested crops - wheat, jowar, and gram - were destroyed due to the rains.

The grape growers in Solapur district are also facing huge losses due to the heavy rainfall.
