MUMBAI: As soon as the assembly session began, within a few hours, the State government announced its first list of the beneficiaries of farm loan waiver scheme. The state crop loan waiver scheme includes 15,368 farmers from 68 villages.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced the list of the eligible beneficiary of the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Shetkari Karjmukti Yojna at Vidhan Bhavan in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat and others.
In December, the chief minister had announced the scheme writing off the loans of farmers whose crop loan outstanding is up to Rs 2 lakh up to September 30, 2019. The scheme will be completed by the end of April.
The second list will be published on February 28. The overall scheme will be completed in three months.
Under the scheme accounts of 34,83, 908 farmers have been collected, still, 1,61,000 loan accounts have to be updated.
Finance Minister Ajit Pawar said, “The selection of two villages from every district is aimed at testing the efficiency of our system that is going to implement the crop loan waiver scheme. The money will be transferred directly into the loan accounts of farmers.”
Earlier, the money used to go the State cooperation commissioner who used to route it to the loan accounts of farmers via district deputy registrar department.
“Bypassing this time consuming exercise, the State government will now transfer the money directly into the loan accounts of farmers,” Pawar added.
Loans of farmers abover Rs 2 lakh will be waived off in phases.
The government has selected farmers of two villages from each taluka for the scheme, where 34,83, 908 farmers have been selected. 972 farmers from
Ahmednagar district have been selected, whereas 856 are from Bramhani (Rahuri taluka) and 111 from Jakhangaon have been selected for the first list.
The maximum beneficiaries 2,15,000 are from Ahmednagar district.

After the announcement of beneficiary’s names, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar spoke with some of the farmers. Vitthalrao Garud, a farmer from Pingali village of Parbhani district, invited both the CM and Deputy CM for his daughter’s wedding.
