Thane mourns death of 8 of family in road accident on way to pilgrimage

Thane:  An eerie silence prevailed in the Eastern part of Dombviili township on Monday when the news of the entire Shah family being wiped out in an accident while on a pilgrimage to Palithana spread. 
The jeep in which the family was travelling, collided head-on with a LPG gas-laden tanker. 

In all 11 people died, including the driver of the jeep. 
The only survivor in the accident is the 17-year-old boy from the family who is at present battling for his life and reported to be serious and being treated at a hospital in Gujarat. 

It was in the small hours of Sunday the family members set out in the jeep to the pilgrim site. En route,  the jeep skidded off and went in opposite lane and hit the tanker, a preliminary reports stated. 

The Raghuvir Nagar locality in the eastern part of Dombivili which was till last night relishing the present Ganesh festival plunged into sorrow as people started converging at the Shah residence to pay their condolences. 

The festivities in the vicinity had also been pulled down to low ebb due to the mega accident in which the family members had lost their lives. The accident took place on the Dandhuka-Barvala road when they were proceeding towards Bhavnagar. 

The relatives have identified the deceased as Sashikant Shah,56, Sonal Sashikant Shah, 52, Dhara Sashikant Shah, 22, Kiran Kamelsh Shah, 49, Jinali Kamlesh Shah, 20, Nemil Kamlesh Shah, Hitesh T Shah, 52, Vibha Shah, 48, Nandeep Shah,22, Jaishuben Dinesh Shah of Vadodra and Bhartiben Kishore Shah, of Surat.  

Among the dead is Mohammad Rasul Mallik, 50. 

The relatives said the victims hailed from Dombivili from three different buildings of Neelkanth Pooja, Nishigandha Building and Veena Building (Madrasi Building). 

Ashokbhai Shah one of the close relatives told the media that the only survivor was Jainam,17 the son of Kiran Shah who was also among those in the jeep but survived.
