State rolls back internal marking system for IX, X

PUNE: After much uproar by the parents, the State government was forced to bring back the internal mark system for the students of IX and Xth of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education from this academic year i.e. 2019-20.

In its revised evaluation system, the State government stated that students will be given 20 marks as internal, taking the grand total to 600 marks. These internal marks have been integrated into subjects including all three languages, mathematics, science and social studies. These subjects will have 80 marks of written examination and 20 marks of internal.

According to a government resolution (GR) issued on Thursday, the languages group will consist of 300 marks with each language of 100 marks. A student will require a total of 105 marks out of 300 marks to qualify in the language group. Remaining subjects like mathematics, science and social studies will have a total of 100 marks each.

These internal marks were waived off in 2018-19. But after a huge uproar from parents and low Std X results this year, the State government had taken up the issue for revision and recommendation.

“The State government had set up a committee last month to reconsider the inclusion of internal marks in the board examination. The committee had recommended new changes in the evaluation system. Therefore, it has been decided that from this academic year 2019-20, internal marks will be given to students of Std IX and X in the State,” said State School Education Minister Ashish Shelar.

When contacted, MSBSHSE Chairperson Shakuntala Kale told Sakal Times that she cannot comment until the board receives an official notification regarding it.

GRADE SYSTEM INTRODUCED
The State government has also revised the total marks of Std XI and XII of the State board. The junior college levels will now be evaluated out of 600 marks only from 650 marks. The 50 marks of environmental science have been turned into grades. This will be implemented for Std XI from 2019-20 and Std XII from 2020-21.
