State government to act against Spicer Univ

MUMBAI: The State government decided to initiate action against Spicer University for irregularity and other violations in their process. This decision was taken during the State cabinet meeting on Tuesday. However, the cabinet also decided to regulate the admissions of the students enrolled during the academic year 2014-15 and 2015-16.

To protect these students, the cabinet approved the amendment in section 51 of University Act and inserted new section 52.

The education institute is a self-financed university and got government accreditation in July 2016. The university has enrolled students before their accreditation for the academic year 2014-16 and 2015-16. While giving admissions to these students, there were various irregularities. Due to this, there were chances that the students would be disqualified and, hence, it is not good for the other students to continue in the university.

Considering these irregularities, the cabinet decided not to keep the university functioning and decided to shut the university and initiate action under section 47 of the university act.

The government will inform about the irregularities to the University Grant Commission to avoid loss to other students willing to take admission in the university.
