State Cabinet decides on water distribution

MUMBAI:  The State government has decided a formula of distribution of unused water of Neera Devghar and Gunjavani Canal.

Under this formula, 45 per cent water will be diverted to Neera right canal while 55 per cent water will be supplied to the left canal.

The government decided the water distribution formula in the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.

After completion of Neera Devghar and Gunjavani dam, the 11.73 TMC water which was generated could not be supplied to the command area of the projects as  work is yet to be completed.

Instead of keeping the water stock dead, the government decided to distribute the water to eight talukas for agricultural purpose and the urban areas in Purandar, Baramati, Indapur (left canal) and Khandala, Phaltan, Malshiras, Pandharpur and Sangola (right canal).

Water from the left canal will be supplied to around  37,070 hectares agriculture land and water from the right canal will be supplied to 6,550 hectares of agricultural land.
