Pune: The Shetkari Sangatana has written a letter to the Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray demanding the procurement of all kinds of cotton. If the government fails to meet their requests, they will begin protesting by calling and sending messages to the ministers from Thursday.

In the letter, the Sangatana stated that almost 80 per cent of the remaining cotton is not Fair Average Quality (FAQ), so, therefore, all kinds of cotton should be procured.

Anil Ghanwat, President, Shetkari Sanghatana said, "Most of the cotton which was left for the procurement was non-FAQ, and only 20 per cent of it is FAQ. Therefore, we are demanding the government to do the grading of the non-FAQ and procure the same from farmers. At present there was no market, so where will the farmers sell their produce and we cannot keep it for a long time as the temperature increases, there are chances for accidental fire."

"Due to lockdown we cannot protest on the road, therefore we will be starting a campaign of calling the ministers regarding our demands from April 30 till the time our demands are met," added Ghanwat.
