Pune: UGC invites Expression of Interest to develop online courses for six undergraduate subjects

Pune: University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited Expression of Interest (EOI) from the eligible faculty members for developing and running the courses on SWAYAM. Any faculty member in a duly recognized institute or college or university holding PhD and having a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in the concerned discipline can register themselves on http://swayam.inflibnet.ac.in/index.php/ register for this project. The faculty employed in the university or college would be required to submit a consent letter of the host university to offer the online course through SWAYAM.

The courses for Anthropology, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology and Commerce are to be developed as per the UGC Curriculum for undergraduate and post-graduate students. Teaching content which could include teaching video and audio in organized form, animation, simulations, video demonstrations, virtual labs, interviews, etc., along with a transcription of videos. The courses delivered on SWAYAM are expected to reduce the digital divide by providing access to the best content to all.

SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform which offers free online courses on almost all the disciplines to students and learners. About 2000 courses in all disciplines are available on SWAYAM and 1.6 crore students and learners have been enrolled since its launch in 2017. In the January 2020 semester, a total of 574 courses in various disciplines were offered and around 26.03 lakh students got enrolled.

Duration of SWAYAM courses is usually 8 to 12 weeks. Total video hours in a course, including all modules, should not exceed 20 to 25 hours of videos. All courses offered through SWAYAM are fully recognized and eligible for credit transfer as per the UGC (Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through SWAYAM) Regulation 2016. An institution can allow up to 20 per cent of the total courses being offered in a programme in a semester through the online courses offered through SWAYAM platform. For ensuring the credit transfer seamlessly, it is required to adhere to the syllabus prescribed in UGC curriculum amended or updated from time-to-time.
