Not interested in state politics, want to carry forward Chavan’s legacy

How do you look at the election in the state and what issues should be for the election in the state?
Every election should be on the issue of economy and development. In the last five years, the state has hit the bottom regarding development. Unemployment has increased, so has the agrarian crisis. No new
investment has come in the state.
The government is only making false promises to the people. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has failed on all fronts. There is no development of infrastructure, he is only copying Prime Minister Narendra Modi and giving speeches in election rallies. Instead of these issues of development, the current government is projecting nationalism. Nationalism should be there and every citizen of India should have it. They should to love their culture and should be proud of it.

How the NCP will counter the Modi-Shah factor? What would be the party’s strategy?
There is no need for strategies. The voters are smart and they are experiencing that the government has failed. Especially, Chief Minister Fadnavis has failed. They cannot implement policies properly despite having absolute power. There is a failure on the social front, women’s security, investment, education and health. The voters will not be swayed by sentimental issues now and they will vote for development.

If you are talking about development, then you might have some plans regarding the issue?
Yes, of course, if we come into power again, definitely I would say that within two and half year tenure, we will make the state number one state in the country. That is my word.

What do you have to say about many leaders from your party quitting the NCP recently and joining the BJP or Shiv Sena?
I am not surprised that these people quit our party and joined the ruling party. They were pampered in NCP. These dynasties developed in NCP, but in the process, they also became corrupt. Now, the BJP will abolish them.

Why the opposition is talking about Pawar family? Why do they target this family?
They have some obsession with Pawar family. They were trying to divide our family. So they played the game of family dispute. First, they tried to created trouble between me and Ajit Pawar. It did not work. Now, they are trying to do the same with Rohit and Parth. Ajit Pawar and I could not be separated as we both have different ambitions and aspirations. Our interests are different. Our personalities are like chalk and cheese. There won’t be a dispute among us till we are here.

As both of you are in the same field i.e. politics, how you can say that your interests are different?
Ajit Pawar has his own interests in politics. But I don’t want to be in state politics. I am happy in Parliament. I want to be number one MP is Parliament for next five years. My speeches in Parliament should be kept in libraries for reference in the future. I am interested in carrying forward Yashwantrao Chavan’s legacy that came to Sharad Pawar.
No one in our family is interested in handling this. So how would there be conflict in our families over political issues?
