NCSC member stern warning to DGP

Pune:  Maharashtra DGP Satish Mathur failed to report even after being summoned by the National Commission for Scheduled Caste (NCSC) to appear in a hearing on Friday has irked NCSC Swaraj Vidwan, who has issued a warning to DGP. 

Mathur was supposed to appear in a hearing associated with the complaint filed by Sunil Ramanand (former Joint commissioner, Pune police, and present Special IG, CID) in connection with a casteist remark made by a police inspector in a case diary. 

Vidwan said, “People should not underestimate the power of commission, I can even summon DGP to Delhi. Commission is a constitutional body and has the power to arrest person who take commission for a ride and it doesn’t matter whether the person is DGP or someone else. He didn’t appear last time as well after which I didn’t conduct the hearing.

Commission is a constitutional body and has immense powers which can be exercised for the well being of people. 

Vidwan who was in the city to hear hearings related to atrocity on scheduled caste has issued a strict warning to DGP Mathur for not complying to the commission. 

It is significant to note that the hearing which took place on November 17 at New Circuit house was in connection the complaint made by Ramanand against police inspector Rajesh Puranik (presently posted with Crime Branch, Pune police) for making a casteist remark against Ramanand in the case diary. Later, Pune Police ordered the suspension of increment in salary for one year and Puranik has appealed against this order to the Home Department.

2008 malegaon blast case

Police inspector Rajesh Puranik attached to the economic offence wing of the city police has been suspended following a departmental inquiry.

The step was taken by the police department after it found that the snacks bills for a workshop conducted by EOW which was submitted by the official were fake.

The suspension order stated that Puranik submitted fake bills for the investigation funds utilised.Puranik’s working order was also challenged by victims, complainant, and witnesses of different cases which led to the action by the department.

The officer is also been accused of raising allegations his juniors without any evidence.
