Mumbai: Two-storey building in Malad crash, 2 rescued

Mumbai: Two buildings came crashing down on Thursday amid heavy downpour in Maharashtra. At least two persons were rescued while a few others were feared to be trapped in the debris -- one in the city, other in suburbs here, the BMC Disaster Cell said.

Those rescued were dug out from the debris of a three-storied tenement which crashed due to heavy rain in Plot No. 8B, at Malvani in Malad west. Another 4-5 persons were still feared trapped and the Mumbai Fire Brigade and disaster teams were engaged in rescuing them.

Later, a portion of a four-storied Bhanushali Building collapsed at Fort in south Mumbai following incessant rain which lashed the city since the past four days.

The fire department and other rescue agencies rushed to the spot and evacuated the other residents in the building even as eyewitnesses said some others may be trapped under the rubble.

Operations are on in full swing at both locations to save the victims though rain continued to hamper the operations.
